Nell Bryden is back with her new album “Wayfarer” – that’s out at the end of the month. The title track has just gone straight on the BBC Radio 2 B-List. That’s 12 play listed singles in a row. Not that I’m gloating like a…a…something that gloats a lot.

Nell joins Alistair Griffin & Kimberley Walsh, both of whom are being led home by “The Road” – it’s the official anthem of the Tour De France and it’s also on the B. Catch them live in session on Weekend Wogan Sunday, 11am-1pm! You can also hear Lee Broderick’s debut single “Lie Lie Lie” during that time period too!

Jack Savoretti is gonna be live in session with Chris Evans on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. He’s in Hyde Park tomorrow to supporting Neil Young. It’s all go!

I’m quite frankly exhausted after writing all that, I’m going to the pub with Leddra Chapman – she’s got a new single out soon – oooooooo ;)

    Hey guys,

I think a light bit of boasting is in order this afternoon.

Four of our Artists are playing sets at the relative Mecca for music lovers, party animals and smelly hippies alike, known to you and I as Glastonbury Festival which is taking place all this week!

Newcomer Liz Lawrence will be providing backing vocals for indie kings Bombay Bicycle Club on the Other Stage while our wonderful Thea Gilmore is tearing it up on the acoustic stage with a career spanning setlist.

Bernhoft is playing two sets over the weekend on the Rabbit Hole Stage and Sonic Stage and finally resident Hesso favourite Caro Emerald will be opening the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday.

How’s that for a slice of fried gold?

Big fans of Christmas, us. Not only because it means eating copius amounts of food for about 7 consecutive days. But because it gives us a chance to do a massively self-indulgent update about all we’ve achieved this year…brace yourselves.

Cross network domination was the order for our Welsh contigent this year:
Our newbie Georgia Ruth, a wonderfully talented singer-songwriter and harpist reached out to almost everyone with her infectious title track from her debut album “Week Of Pines.” Championed by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq first and foremost, Georgia went on to win the rebel playlist, become Lammo’s ‘favourite new band of the week’, perform live in session with Lauren Laverne, become Jo Whiley’s ‘favourite new thing’ and be spun by Shaun Keaveny, Gideon Coe, RadMac and Cerys on 6. Janice Long, Terry Wogan and Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2 as well as Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and Jen & Ally on BBC Radio 1. It’s probably also worth mentioning that Georgia won the Welsh Music Prize for her debut album too. Not bad Georgia, not bad.

Al Lewis had two BBC Radio 2 playlists this year with “Make A Little Room” and “A Child’s Christmas In Wales” as well being in session on Good Morning Sunday and being played on both BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1. Al’s long-term collaborator Sarah Howells’ band Paper Aeroplanes enjoyed a similar run with numerous plays on 6Music, R2 and Radio 1. I mean, there’s gotta be something in the water over in Wales?!

Our wonderful Caro Emerald returned this year with her new album The Shocking Miss Emerald, a BBC Radio 2 Album Of The Week featuring 4 playlist additions, including 2 A-Lists. Caro played the BBC Radio Theatre for BBC Radio 2 In Concert in April, sold out the Royal Albert Hall in March and will be playing the 02 arena next year. There was also the small matter of a UK No. 1 album in May too…we wish Caro a very Merry Christmas and good luck in the new year with her new arrival!

Thea Gilmore returned with a new record this year, and we got to plug it! The new album Regardless was again a BBC Radio 2 AOW and boasted to 2 A-List records resulting in a Weekend Wogan and 2 Good Morning Sunday sessions.

Our Katie Melua returned with her 6th studio album Ketevan in the summer. As well as being an AOW, we’ve had 3 R2 playlists and sessions with Wogan, Good Morning Sunday, BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Richard Bacon on 5 Live and Outlook on BBC Worldservice. The new single “Where Does The Ocean Go” is up next, listen out for that one!

Matt Cardle returned with his third studio album in as many years and it JUST missed out on another UK Top 10. However, it’s been well recieved at Radio 2 with 2 A-Lists and a Wogan session. I think he may have a few Spice Girls fans on his side now too? Watch his top 10 hit with Melanie C here!

Are we rambling? Sorry (We’re not sorry at all, onwards!)

Nell Bryden has secured her status as a darling of BBC Radio 2 with a session on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show in November, 2 playlist additions from last years Shake The Tree and an A-List addition for “All You Had”, the first single from Nell’s forthcoming album, more details on that one in the new year. MASSIVELY excited! Here’s the lyric vid.

Jack Savoretti has been busy again, a couple of playlist on BBC Radio 2, two european tours with Jake Bugg, BBC Breakfast appearances and all sorts! New EP is out in the new year called Sweet Hurt. Watch out for that one!

Oh GOD, there’s so much more!
An R2 Record Of The Week for our beautiful Leddra Chapman, here is the HUGGE chooon in question – “All About You.” She also teamed up with Alistair Griffin in July to make “The One” an R2 B-List addition.
Josephine had two more playlist addition to add to “Original Love” from 2012. There were also sessions for Richard Madeley and GMS!!

We’ve also had PL additions for Hannah Boleyn, Ruarri Joseph, Zervas & Pepper (who smashed the Introducing stage at BBC Radio 2 in Hyde Park!! think we could go on and on and on. But enough, is enough! We promise they’ll be more next year! We’ve got a couple of new acts in the pipeline that we’re ridicuously excited to get our there, but we’ll save that for when necessary…

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Team Hesso xx

  • A Christmas cracker!

    News image

Our favourite Welshie (well one of them – I think we’ve got the lot?!) Al Lewis has gone on the BBC Radio 2 playlist with his single “A Child’s Christmas In Wales”. What with this news and it now being December, I think we can say this now…

The track is based on the story by Dylan Thomas and is in association with the DT100; celebrating what would have been the Welsh poets’ 100th year. Here’s the video to warm the cockles of your heart.
Also, if you happen to be up at 8am this Sunday (it’s a long shot, but worth a try), Al will also be on Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday!

AND it’s probably also worth mentioning that our Nell Bryden has gone up to the BBC Radio 2 A-List, which is also quite good news isn’t it?!! Here, have a look if you don’t believe us!

We’ve not had a bad one this weekend!

Kicking off on Friday (If you count Friday as the weekend, I think most people do), we headed off down to Bestival on the Isle Of Wight to see a new act of ours; Caravan Palace. Hopefully coming to big, industrialised city in the South East of England very soon…

SUNDAY! BBC Radio 2 had their annual ‘Festival In a Day’ at Hyde Park. Aside from the massive line-up on the main stage, this year was the first year of the BBC Introducing stage at the event. It would be silly not to start by mentioning yesterday’s antics over a BBC Radio 2! We sorted our Caro Emerald to be In Concert over at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, broadcast live on R2 as well as online and via the red button. But before all that, there was a 2 track session on the Ken Bruce show, where Claudia Winkleman sat in. This was followed later by a quick chat with Simon Mayo and finally a web chat with host for the evening, Jo Whiley. Aside from all the interviews, previous tracks from Caro’s debut album Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor were played once more on R2 throughout the day. If you missed any of it, get yourself over to the In Concert webpage to live/re-live it! Here’s the link.
